Lee Chastain is the head of IP monetisation at NXP Semiconductors BV and is based in Austin, Texas. In this role he manages all aspects of IP monetisation business processes including identification of monetisation opportunities, reverse engineering, preparation of claim charts, technical reviews with potential licensees and IP purchasers, negotiations of agreement terms and conditions, and litigations in various venues.  He has been involved full-time in the area of IP Monetisation for over 12 years at NXP and, before NXP’s acquisition, at Freescale Semiconductor.

Mr. Chastain started his legal career in private practice at the Dallas, Texas office of Baker Botts, supporting technology clients in the defense, semiconductor and telecom industries.  He initially joined Motorola to support the PowerPC Alliance between Apple, IBM and Motorola.  Later, he became involved in licensing through outbound technical transfers of Motorola’s processor design  and semiconductor processing technology programs.  Mr. Chastain has also had a front row seat to consolidation of the semiconductor industry over the last 15 years, being spun out, taken private, taken public and acquired numerous times as part of Motorola, Freescale and NXP.

Mr. Chastain has undergraduate degrees in physics and nuclear engineering from Northwestern University and a J.D. from Columbia University School of Law.  He is licensed to practice law by the State of Texas and to prosecute matters before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
